ABOUT
The Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech operates three greenhouse facilities. Two are located in the Washington Street Greenhouse Complex and house our Plant Teaching Collection, featuring over 300 plant species that support a wide range of educational activities.
Looking for a space to conduct your research? Our Plant Growth Facility on Smithfield Plantation Road is dedicated to advanced research projects that promote molecular plant sciences. It offers six growth bays, customizable environmental controls, daily watering & pest management, and can accommodate transgenic plant research at BL1-P containment levels.

The Biological Sciences Plant Growth Facility (BIOL-PGF) at Virginia Tech offers 3,240 square feet of research space with controlled environmental growth bays. Located on Smithfield Plantation Road, it supports plant science research and is available to both university-affiliated and external users. Bench fees include daily watering and pest control.

The Teaching Plant Collection plays a key role in undergraduate education, offering a variety of plant specimens, including aquatic, desert, tropical, and rare species, for hands-on use in courses. The facility also supports faculty and student research projects and provides tours for visitors and local schools.
